On November 3, 2005, Roscoe Shipp, a 22-year-old male, was fatally shot in Dayton, Ohio. The incident occurred in the parking lot of JP's Sports Bar located on North Gettysburg Avenue. Roscoe was leaving the bar with a friend when they were approached by several individuals, leading to a confrontation that resulted in his death. He suffered fatal gunshot wounds at the scene.
The investigation into Roscoe's death was led by the Dayton Police Department.
Despite their efforts, the case remained unsolved for years, categorized as a cold case by authorities. Later, a suspect was eventually identified and charged. In 2015, after a decade of uncertainty for the family, a suspect was sentenced in connection with the killing, pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter and receiving a six-year prison sentence. The resolution, though providing some measure of justice, could not fully ease the loss felt by Roscoe’s family and friends.
