A man is fatally assaulted outside a market On August 30, 1994, Edward McCollum was discovered unconscious near the Gillespie Curb Market located at 1917 Martin Luther King Drive in Greensboro, North Carolina. At around 9:40 p.m., police responded to an emergency call reporting an assault. Upon arrival, officers found McCollum on the ground and unresponsive. He was rushed to Moses Cone Hospital, where he later passed away from his injuries.
McCollum’s death was classified as a homicide, and despite efforts by the Greensboro Police Department to gather information and investigate the case, no suspects were apprehended. McCollum's killing remains one of the many unsolved homicides in Greensboro from the 1990s, with the police continuing to ask the public for any leads that might help solve this cold case.
