On January 12, 2008, Eric Richard Byrd, a 21-year-old from Charlotte, North Carolina, was shot and killed during a robbery attempt. Byrd and three associates went to Lake Point Apartments on Point Lake Drive, intending to purchase marijuana. While there, one of Byrd's friends was confronted by an armed assailant, robbed, and led back to the car where Byrd and the others were waiting.
