On July 12, 2016, 41-year-old Donnell Eric Drakeford was shot and killed in west Charlotte, North Carolina. Police were called to the scene just before midnight, where they found Drakeford suffering from a gunshot wound in his home on Ridgevalley Drive. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) did not immediately identify a suspect, and the motive behind the shooting remained unclear.
