Louis Chavez, a 26-year-old white man, crossed paths with a stranger on the night of March 31, 2016, in the glow of a Chevron canopy on Hotel Circle NE near Eubank in Albuquerque. According to police, a man and a woman in a white pickup approached Chavez and a companion asking for gas money. The exchange escalated into an argument.
