Louis Chavez, a 26-year-old white man, crossed paths with a stranger on the night of March 31, 2016, in the glow of a Chevron canopy on Hotel Circle NE near Eubank in Albuquerque. According to police, a man and a woman in a white pickup approached Chavez and a companion asking for gas money. The exchange escalated into an argument. As Chavez turned to walk away, the man slid behind the wheel, accelerated through the forecourt, and struck him.
Chavez died at the scene, the truck roaring off into the night with the male driver and his female passenger inside.
Detectives quickly identified the victim as Louis Chavez and asked the public to help find the pair seen in surveillance images from the station.
