On October 9, 2001, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Hector Perez was shot during a drive-by shooting. Hector was sitting on the bleachers at the baseball field, Maslow Park, talking with a group of kids when the suspect vehicle (black or purple Dodge Neon) drove through the parking lot. Witnesses said someone in the front passenger seat fired several gunshots at the group of kids on the bleachers. Everyone scattered.
