Zachary Roberts, an 18-year-old man, was shot and killed inside an elderly resident’s home in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the early hours of Tuesday, January 19, 2010. According to police and coroner accounts published that week, Roberts kicked open the front door of a house on Clarkway Drive, near Bonanza Road and Rancho Drive. The resident, who used a cane and said he was in no condition to fight, warned the intruder to leave.
When the man stepped further inside, the resident fired once, striking Roberts in the chest. The Clark County coroner later identified the deceased as Zachary Roberts and ruled the cause of death a gunshot wound to the chest.
In the immediate aftermath, police described the episode as a criminal preying on the elderly and said the suspect’s body was found in the doorway.
