Felipe Jason Moreno, age 20, was shot and killed on December 22, 2012, in San Bernardino, California, during a party dubbed the "End of the World" gathering. The party had attracted a large crowd, and the shooting occurred around midnight while Moreno and his cousin, Daniel Gomez, were driving away. Moreno was shot fatally in the upper torso, causing the vehicle to roll to a stop, while Gomez sustained gunshot injuries to his arm.
Investigators found two different types of shell casings, raising the possibility of multiple shooters, but no suspects have been identified.
The party, themed around the supposed prediction of the end of the world based on the Mayan calendar, had been mostly non-violent until the violence erupted. Despite the presence of many attendees, police received little cooperation, which has hindered progress in the investigation. Authorities continue to seek public assistance in solving the case.
