On July 15, 2010, authorities in Detroit, Michigan, recorded the death of Michael Stewart, a 30-year-old African American male who had fallen victim to a violent homicide. The fatal sequence of events began ten days earlier, in the early morning hours of July 5, following a night out that turned deadly. Stewart had been at a nightclub on 8 Mile Road, a well-known corridor in the city, accompanied by a man whom he considered a friend.
Investigators determined that an argument ensued between Stewart and his companion in the club's parking lot. The dispute appeared to escalate after the group departed the venue. Approximately fifteen minutes after leaving the club, Stewart was walking down the street near the 19900 block of Littlefield Street—a residential area just a few blocks south of 8 Mile—when he was ambushed. Surveillance footage recovered by police captured the chilling moments as the suspect stalked Stewart before gunning him down in cold blood.
