On January 17, 2011, police officers were dispatched to the 18400 block of Prairie Street, near the intersection of West 7 Mile Road, following reports of trouble at the location. Upon entering the residence at 18475 Prairie Street, authorities found the bodies of 21-year-old Gavin Spearman and 19-year-old Reginald Pope.
Both men had suffered fatal injuries, having been shot to death inside the home. The discovery was made late in the evening, approximately around 11:30 p.m., though some records list the date of the offense as January 16, suggesting the incident may have occurred the day prior to the discovery.
