Alaya Cook, an 8-year-old girl, tragically died on March 9, 2011, in Detroit, Michigan, in a fire that also claimed the life of her 10-year-old sister, Lataya Cook. The fire occurred in their father's home on Detroit's east side during the early morning hours. The exact cause of the blaze has not been detailed publicly, but the fire devastated the family and community.
