In the early morning hours on Detroit's east side, the life of 37-year-old Brandon Johnson was tragically cut short. He was fatally shot while sitting in an SUV with a female companion, who was unharmed, outside the Martin Luther King Apartments on Lafayette and Chene. The incident, which police described as an attempted carjacking, sent shockwaves through his family and community.
Johnson's grandmother, who lived nearby, recalled hearing two gunshots at approximately 3:20 a.m.
A short time later, she heard the sound of footsteps running past her patio. His relatives were overcome with emotion upon arriving at the scene, which had been cordoned off by police. Johnson's father described him as a devoted and loving father to his 7-year-old daughter, emphasizing that the two were inseparable.
