In a tragic event on Detroit's east side, a 26-year-old man, Patrick Jones, was killed in what authorities believe to be a domestic violence-related incident. The shooting occurred on December 22, 2022, when police were called to a residence around 10:45 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Jones in an upstairs bedroom with fatal gunshot wounds to his right arm and armpit; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations into the death of Patrick Jones led to the arrest of
25-year-old Lemonte Richawn Jackson. According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, a verbal altercation between Jones and Jackson escalated, leading Jackson to allegedly produce a firearm and shoot Jones before fleeing the scene. This was not an isolated incident for Jackson, as he was also connected to another fatal shooting that occurred less than a week prior. On December 16, Jackson was allegedly involved in the murder of 30-year-old Rodney Carter outside a nightclub on the city's west side.
For his involvement in the death of Patrick Jones, Lemonte Richawn Jackson has been charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of felon in possession of a firearm, and two counts of felony firearm. The charges reflect the violent end to what began as a verbal dispute, leaving a community to mourn the loss of a young man.
