On April 11, 2013, Rafael Mancilla Robles, 34, was killed in San Diego, California. The homicide involved a connection to the ongoing drug cartel activity in the region, as Robles' death was tied to violence orchestrated by cartel members operating across the U.S.-Mexico border. Twin brothers Anibal and Edward Avila were identified as suspects in the shooting. They reportedly fled to Mexico shortly after the incident, and were later apprehended by authorities in connection with the crime.
