A simmering argument at a BP gas station on Detroit's west side in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 23, 2023, escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 32-year-old Desmond Nelson. The incident, which unfolded at approximately 2:15 a.m. at the gas station located in the 15440 block of West McNichols Road, led to the arrest of a suspect.

Responding to reports of a shooting, Detroit Police officers arrived at the scene to find Desmond Nelson on the ground with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was pronounced dead at the location. An investigation into the shooting identified 34-year-old Ricardo Williams as the alleged shooter. According to authorities, an argument between Williams and Nelson escalated, culminating in Williams allegedly drawing a firearm and shooting Nelson.

Surveillance footage from the gas station's Green Light camera played a crucial role in the investigation. The video reportedly captured the argument between the two men and the subsequent shooting. The footage also showed a woman, identified only as 'Blossom,' retrieving a gun from the trunk of a car and handing it to Williams during the dispute.

Ricardo Williams was arrested on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, and was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and felony firearm. He was arraigned on Saturday, August 12, 2023, and was remanded to jail. Authorities have indicated that the woman known as 'Blossom' will also face charges in connection with Nelson's death. Williams' probable cause conference was scheduled for August 21, 2023, with a preliminary examination set for August 28 of the same year.
