Derrick Nelson, aged 35, was killed on May 9, 2015, in Detroit, Michigan. Nelson, a well-known member of the Detroit community and an alumnus of the University of Detroit Mercy (UDM), was tragically gunned down in the parking lot of his gated community apartment. His death came as a shock to many, particularly within the UDM community, where he had worked during his years of study and was well known for his kindness and willingness to help others.
