Richard Hixon was a 50-year-old Black male living in Detroit, Michigan, who became the victim of a fatal shooting in the early morning hours of November 25, 2016. The incident unfolded on the city's west side, specifically near the intersection of Tyler Street and Lauder Street, situated between Fullerton Avenue and Schoolcraft Avenue. According to reports, Hixon had spoken with his brother before leaving his residence, stating his intention to visit a friend's home nearby.
Around 3:15 a.m., Hixon's girlfriend realized he was not in bed and became concerned. When she attempted to reach him by calling his cell phone, a friend answered the line instead of Hixon. The friend frantically explained that they had been shot at and that he did not know Hixon's current location. This alarming news prompted Hixon's family to immediately launch a search of the surrounding neighborhood in an effort to find him.
During their search, family members discovered Hixon lying in the street, suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency responders were contacted and arrived at the scene to transport him to Sinai-Grace Hospital. Despite medical intervention, Hixon succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
