Ashley Coates was a 21-year-old African-American woman from Detroit, Michigan, whose life and future were violently taken from her on August 5, 2017. On that summer Saturday, Detroit firefighters responded to a car fire on the city’s east side, near Seneca and Lambert Streets. When the flames were extinguished, investigators discovered two bodies in the back of a silver Honda Accord: Ashley and her boyfriend, 35-year-old Rolando Douglas.
