On April 8, 2014, Herbert Shephard, a 51-year-old man from Los Angeles, died from injuries sustained in a shooting that occurred three days earlier in Long Beach, California. The incident took place on April 5, 2014, in the 2300 block of Eucalyptus Avenue. Shephard and another man were both shot around 9:07 PM. While Shephard was critically injured and later succumbed to his wounds at the hospital, the other victim survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
Shephard was not a Long Beach resident and was in the area visiting a friend while recovering from surgery. Investigators believe the attack may have been a case of mistaken identity. The Long Beach Police Department has canvassed the area multiple times seeking information, but so far, the descriptions of the suspects remain vague. One suspect was described as a tall, thin Black male with a medium afro, while the second suspect was similarly tall and thin but had short hair.
The investigation remains open, and authorities continue to request the public's assistance in solving the case.
