On a late spring evening in Boston, the life of a young African-American man, Jefferson Cory Johnson, was tragically cut short. The 27-year-old father was standing outside his father's home in the Roxbury neighborhood on May 30, 2010, enjoying a conversation with his half-brother. It was around midnight when the peaceful scene was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Shots rang out from the darkness, striking both men.
