On a cold February morning in Baltimore, a young Black man's life was tragically cut short, leaving a void in the lives of those who knew and loved him. Ryan Lamar Hollimon, a 23-year-old male, was shot and killed on February 1, 2007. He was a devoted father to his two young children, a son to loving parents, and a student with dreams of a future in law.
In the early hours of that Thursday, at approximately 2:20 a.m., Ryan and two friends were leaving the now-closed Club Mate in South
Baltimore. As they were getting into their car in the 3600 block of South Hanover Street, two unknown individuals approached the vehicle. A single shot was fired through the back window, striking Ryan in the back. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries just twenty minutes later.
Ryan was a graduate of Randallstown High School and had been taking classes at Morgan State University with the goal of one day becoming a lawyer to help young people. He was also a talented musician, having played the piano from a young age and the drums at his father's church for many years. To support his family, he worked at a car wash and a clothing store. Those who knew him best remember him as a man who was turning his life around and was deeply committed to his children.
The investigation into Ryan's murder was handled by the Baltimore Police Department. However, despite their efforts, the two individuals responsible for his death were never publicly identified. No arrests have been announced in the case, and the senseless act of violence that took a young father's life remains unsolved. The suspects in his killing remain at large.
