Big Bahadur Gurung, a 20-year-old Bhutanese refugee, was fatally shot on August 23, 2011, in Northeast Baltimore during what appeared to be a robbery. Gurung had recently immigrated to the United States from Nepal, seeking a safe refuge after experiencing years of persecution in his home country of Bhutan. He and his 17-year-old nephew were both shot during the incident at Parkside Gardens apartments on Bowleys Lane, which was one of two double shootings reported that night.
