In May of 2016, a six-month-old African-American baby boy from Baltimore, Maryland named Kahlil Cannady was brought to the University of Maryland Hospital with severe trauma to his head. Medical staff diagnosed the infant with a host of critical injuries, including a seizure, traumatic brain injury, retinal hemorrhaging, and rib fractures.
