In the late summer evening of September 2, 2017, a burst of violence shattered the quiet of a Canton alley in Baltimore, Maryland. There, 46-year-old Antoine 'Georgie' Rich, a Black male, was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds. The shooting occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. in the 3400 block of Harmony Court. First responders rushed to the scene and transported Rich to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, but his injuries proved fatal.
Investigators quickly determined that the
shooting was not a random act of violence, believing that Rich was specifically targeted. At the scene, police found a black baseball cap, an iPhone, and five 9-millimeter casings, painting a grim picture of the final moments of his life. Adding to the intrigue, when medics attended to Rich, a substantial amount of cash, totaling $12,625, was found falling from his pocket. Surveillance footage from the area captured a suspect fleeing the scene carrying a satchel, which authorities believe may have contained drugs or more money.
The investigation into Rich's murder uncovered his alleged ties to a significant drug trafficking operation. At the time of his death, he was the subject of a federal investigation into a major heroin and fentanyl distribution network in Baltimore. The Drug Enforcement Administration had sought warrants to search nine phones connected to Rich, believing they held evidence of his criminal activities and potentially clues to his murder. Despite these leads and the ongoing broader investigation into the drug organization, which resulted in the indictment of eleven other individuals in July 2017, no arrests have been made in connection with Antoine Rich's death.
