On a cold December evening in Baltimore, Maryland, the life of 25-year-old Daniel Mullhausen was tragically cut short. On December 26, 2017, Mullhausen was shot and killed while inside his SUV on the 3800 block of Old York Road. The events leading to his death began with a dispute involving a group of men outside the Waverly Tavern. As he attempted to drive away from the altercation, multiple gunshots were fired at his vehicle. He was struck by the gunfire and died at the scene.

The investigation into the shooting led police to identify a suspect, Bryan Hannah. In early January 2018, Hannah was apprehended and charged with first-degree murder and other related offenses in connection with Mullhausen's death. Video evidence presented during the legal proceedings reportedly showed Hannah inside the tavern prior to the shooting and being involved in the altercation with Mullhausen. The footage allegedly depicted Hannah punching Mullhausen before firing numerous shots at him as he sat in his vehicle.

Bryan Hannah was initially convicted of voluntary manslaughter, use of a firearm in a crime of violence, and possession of a regulated firearm. He received a ten-year sentence for the manslaughter conviction, with additional time for the other charges. However, this conviction was later overturned. Rather than face a retrial, Hannah opted for a plea agreement. In a subsequent hearing, he was sentenced to 15 years for voluntary manslaughter.
