A woman is abandoned at an ER by an anonymous man On the evening of October 13, 1984, Beverly Polchies, a 25-year-old female from the Woodstock First Nation in New Brunswick, Canada, found herself in Old Town, Maine. She had traveled to the area with her boyfriend and another couple. An encounter with the Old Town Police Department due to public intoxication led to her being picked up and subsequently transferred to the custody of the Indian Island Police.
An officer from the Penobscot Nation Police then drove her to the Penobscot Indian Reservation before dropping her off on Route 2 in Milford at approximately 8:30 p.m.
Later that night, around 10:00 p.m., a small white car arrived at the Eastern Maine Medical Center's emergency room. In the passenger seat was Beverly Polchies, severely injured. The unidentified male driver informed the hospital staff that she was intoxicated and had been struck by a car. After ensuring she was in the care of the medical staff, he quickly departed the scene. Beverly succumbed to her injuries an hour later. For three days, she remained unidentified until authorities confirmed her identity.
The man who brought Beverly to the hospital is considered the primary suspect in her death. He was described as a white male, between 30 and 35 years old, with a slender build, standing between 5'6' and 5'8' tall, and weighing approximately 150-160 pounds. Despite the driver's claim of a car accident, the medical examiner ruled Beverly's death a homicide. Initially, her family was under the impression that her death was the result of a hit-and-run. It wasn't until decades later, in 2017, that they were informed by the Attorney General's Office that her case was being investigated as an unsolved murder.
The investigation into Beverly Polchies' death has spanned decades, yet no arrests have been made, and the case remains unsolved. The individuals she was traveling with on the night of her death have all since passed away, taking with them any potential information they may have had. The Maine State Police continue to seek information from the public regarding the man who dropped her off at the hospital and the circumstances surrounding her death.
