A man is found murdered by his brother In the quiet coastal town of Orland, Maine, the morning of July 15, 2005, brought with it a grim discovery that would leave a family searching for answers for years to come. Brian Allen, a 46-year-old White male, was found deceased in the bed of a trailer where he had been staying. An investigation into his death would later confirm that he had been shot, and his case was officially ruled a homicide.
Brian's brother, Larry Allen, made the initial report after discovering his brother's
body in the trailer they shared near a blueberry field. At the scene, investigators found a. 22 caliber bolt-action rifle with a scope leaning against the wall near the head of the cot where Brian lay. A half-full can of beer was on the floor next to the rifle. Detectives noted that the position of the rifle appeared deliberate, suggesting it had been placed there and had not fallen.
In the weeks and months that followed, the Maine State Police dedicated significant resources to the investigation, with seven detectives working the case full-time initially. Their efforts included searching nearby bodies of water, such as Meadow Brook and the Narramissic River, and even draining an irrigation pond behind G.M. Allen, the blueberry plant where Brian worked. These searches, however, did not yield any new evidence. Investigators also set up a roadblock on Route 15, speaking with hundreds of drivers in the hopes of gathering information about anything suspicious seen between the evening of July 14th and the morning of July 15th, but this too proved fruitless.
Despite numerous interviews and an ongoing investigation by the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit, no arrests have ever been made in connection with the murder of Brian Allen. The case has received little media coverage over the years and has become one of Maine's unsolved homicides. His family continues to seek justice and answers in his death.
