In the winter of 2011, the life of 37-year-old Deshone A. Henry, a male from Louisville, Kentucky, was tragically cut short. On the evening of Saturday, December 10, 2011, Henry and his 22-year-old cousin, Curtis Smith, were found shot outside a car on Beech Street in the Park DuValle neighborhood. When authorities arrived, the two men were discovered unresponsive.
Both were transported to a local hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.
The investigation into the double homicide led Louisville Metro Police to 18-year-old Brian Edmonds. In January 2012, Edmonds was arrested and charged with two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of Henry and Smith. Prosecutors built a case against Edmonds, citing DNA evidence and a recorded phone call in which he allegedly confessed to the killings. The motive behind the shooting was not extensively publicized, but the case against Edmonds moved forward to trial.
After years of legal proceedings, a jury found Brian Edmonds guilty of the murders of Deshone Henry and Curtis Smith in December 2015. Following the guilty verdict, Edmonds was sentenced to life in prison. The conviction brought a sense of closure to the families of the victims, who had waited four years for justice to be served.
