On a tragic autumn day in Louisville, Kentucky, the life of 26-year-old D'juan Smith was cut short. On October 20, 2014, in a common area of the Beecher Terrace housing complex near West Muhammad Ali Boulevard, Smith was fatally wounded in a shooting that also left another man injured. The incident, which took place in the 1100 block of Fisk Court, prompted an investigation by the Louisville Metro Police Department.
For months, the case remained under investigation until a break led to
the arrest of a suspect. In March 2015, authorities apprehended 38-year-old Dojuan Carlos Jefferson. He was arrested on Sundance Drive, where a handgun was also recovered. Jefferson faced serious charges, including murder for the death of D'juan Smith, attempted murder for the injury of the second victim, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. A judge set his bond at $100,000.
D'juan Smith, known to his loved ones as 'Suan,' was a father of five children. His death left a void in the lives of his children, his mother, Hazel Smith, his father, Curtis Quisenberry, and his siblings. The community mourned his loss, with funeral services held at King Solomon Baptist Church before he was laid to rest at Green Meadows Cemetery.
