The fact that Jacob Pickett was willing to put himself in harm's way to protect the community speaks volumes about his character. I was reading about his work with K-9 Brick, and it got me thinking about the bond they must have shared. A well-trained K-9 and handler like Deputy Pickett make such an effective team, and I imagine Brick played a huge role in their successes. It's just so sad to think about how many lives were affected, especially his family and those boys now growing up without their dad. Makes you wonder how the departments are supporting them in the aftermath. It's reassuring, at least, that they've ensured his legacy will live on and his sacrifice won't be forgotten.
