Was anyone else quite surprised to learn that Peter didn’t have a life jacket on when he went overboard? I’ve read some articles about safety regulations back in the early '80s, and it seems like wearing them was not as enforced as it is now. It's haunting to think about what could have possibly been different had he been wearing one that fateful day. Has anyone here found more details about the specific safety measures on the Karin Lyn at that time? Any insights would be appreciated.
Hey everyone,
I've been looking into the Peter disappearance and something that struck me is how dangerous those fishing jobs were back then. From everything I've read, the Bering Sea is no joke. The fact that Peter was just out there doing his job in such treacherous waters makes me think about how little recognition these fishermen get for risking their lives. Does anyone have more info on the safety measures they had in place on these vessels during the early '80s? I wonder if anything could have been done differently to prevent such tragedies. Also, if any former fishermen or their families are out there, I’d love to hear your thoughts or stories related to this. Thanks!
Stay safe,
