I recently came across the case of the missing crew from the FV St. George and can’t stop thinking about the recovery of that empty life raft found on January 5, 1992. It raises so many questions about what might have happened. It’s haunting to imagine what they might have gone through. The other thing I wonder about is the search and rescue efforts. As I understand it, the area around Unimak Pass is pretty treacherous, with rough waters and harsh weather conditions. Does anyone know more about the challenges faced by search teams in those waters? I’m really curious about how they coordinate those efforts and what kind of technology they use to try and find vessels and people in such vast and hostile environments. Seems like there would be a lot of limitations back in 1992. If anyone has insights or knows about similar cases, I’d love to hear more.
Does anybody else find it odd that the life raft from the F/V "St. George" was found completely empty? I mean, you'd think if they had time to deploy it, someone would have managed to get aboard. The conditions must have been dire. The fact that it was located so far from where the ship supposedly sank also makes me wonder what happened in those last moments. Were there any reports about the weather that day? It's been such a mystery, especially with experienced crew members like Kevin Clark and George Dahl on board. How does a whole ship and crew vanish like that, even after extensive search efforts?
Does anyone have more info on the search efforts for the missing crew of the F/V "St. George"? It's been haunting me that besides the empty life raft found in January '92, there hasn't been any trace. Was there ever any speculation or theories shared about what might have happened to cause the sinking so far from Unimak Pass? It seems so strange that the whole vessel just vanished like that. My heart goes out to the families of Kevin Clark, George Dahl, Terry James, Sean McWethy, and Brian Schouten. I hope they’ve been able to find some peace over the years, but I keep wondering if we’ll ever learn more about what truly happened.
