I've been following Martha Shafer's case for a while, and something I've been wondering about is the location Terry mentioned in his confession - the San Jacinto River near Baytown. It's such a large and murky area; I can't imagine how difficult it must be to recover remains after so many years. Does anyone here know if there were any specific searches conducted in that area following his confession? I feel like there must have been a lot of logistical challenges given the size of the river and the surrounding environment. Plus, the fact that it took Terry 17 years to confess makes me wonder if there are any other cases where a similar resolution occurred so long after the fact. Would love to hear any insights or resources you all might have on search efforts in locations like this.
Has anyone else been struck by the details surrounding the confession of Terry Shafer in Martha's case? I keep thinking about how, despite his admission, Martha's body was never found in the San Jacinto River. It just leaves me wondering about the element of control that Terry maintained even in his confession. Was it a truthful account, or was there more manipulation at play? The tragic thing is, without physical evidence, it's hard for her family to truly find peace. What do you all think—can justice ever really be served without recovery of the remains? It must be incredibly hard for the family to have an answer but still face so many unanswered questions.
I've been thinking a lot about the fact that despite Terry's confession, no physical evidence has ever been found to confirm what happened to Martha. It's really baffling how, after all these years, not a single trace of her has been discovered in the San Jacinto River. Could it be that Terry lied about the location, or could the river really have hidden her remains all this time? I wonder if they could ever use technology like sonar or ground-penetrating radar to try and find anything that might have been missed back in the '90s. It's just tough to imagine that Terry might have left out details that could lead to discovering Martha's remains for a proper closure. What do you guys think? Have there been other cases where confessions have been true, but no remains were ever found?
