Hey everyone, I’ve just been thinking about the courage it must have taken for Deputy Marshals Hugh and John Montgomery to continue their service despite the risks they faced on a daily basis. It's incredibly sad to think they thought they were safe enough to let their guard down, only for it to end so tragically. The fact that they trusted the suspect enough to stay the night just shows how unexpected the betrayal was. I can't imagine how this just shattered the sense of security in their community at that time. It also makes you think about how the job could mean life or death in an instant, especially back in those days. My heart goes out to their families and colleagues who had to deal with the grief of losing them in such a brutal manner. ?
