I’ve been thinking a lot about the community's reaction after Dreshawn’s tragic death and how it united us all in grief and a collective demand for change. I can’t imagine the depth of the sorrow that his family must feel, especially with this happening so close to what should have been a celebratory graduation time for him. It's been touching to see people coming together, organizing vigils, and speaking out against the violence that took his life—and yet, it's a stark reminder of how vulnerable our young folks can be without proper safeguards in place.
The rally in front of the courthouse, in particular, was especially moving. Seeing everyone, from students to parents and even local leaders, stand together, was like witnessing a community’s heart. It also feels like there’s this ongoing conversation now about how to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. Has anyone else been to these community meetings or vigils? Or perhaps you have some thoughts or ideas on what effective changes we might be able to push for locally to protect our youth?
