Hey everyone, I’ve been thinking a lot about the impact Edward J. Jernagin's murder has had on his local community. It's been over a decade since he was tragically taken from us, and yet his presence is still sorely missed. He was more than just the friendly face at Wabash Food and Liquors; he was a staple in the neighborhood. His familiarity provided a comforting routine to many who visited the store.
What gets to me is how people like him—those who dedicate decades to serving their communities—become victims of the very environments they help sustain. I’ve read that for many customers, seeing Ed behind the counter was like a reminder of stability in a world that often feels unstable.
As we continue to dig for answers and hope for justice in Ed's case, I think it’s important to also acknowledge the broader issue of small business owners and employees who face these risks every day. How do we better protect those who are sincerely just trying to make an honest living? Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts or if anyone has more updates on safety measures that have been put in place since then. Sending strength to those who knew Ed and are still dealing with the aftermath of his loss.
