I’ve been researching Deandre Boatman’s case, and I can’t stop thinking about how Garfield Park, like so many communities, struggles under the weight of systemic challenges. It’s honestly so distressing to see young lives like Deandre’s cut short by circumstances that seem almost too massive to tackle. It makes you wonder, where does the root of the problem really lie? Guns in the wrong hands, yes, but there's more. The poverty, the lack of opportunities - it's a cycle that keeps spinning. It’s also worth discussing how these issues only get the spotlight after incidents like this occur. Why aren’t we hearing more about preventative measures engaging youth long before violence touches their lives? I really hope discussions about improving the socioeconomic conditions continue and lead to concrete actions. My heart goes out to Deandre’s family and everyone impacted by this loss. Let's keep them in our thoughts as we strive for meaningful change.
