I've been closely following Michael Henley Ballard's case and was looking back through some news articles today. While reading, it struck me how peculiar it is that his kayak was never found. As an experienced kayaker, it's baffling to think his equipment wouldn't have eventually turned up given the extensive search efforts. I've read that kayaks can sometimes travel quite a distance if they drift along with the current or wind. Does anyone know if there were any unusual weather conditions or tides around the time he went missing that could have contributed to this? Also, could any specific features of the York River make it more challenging to locate missing kayaks or bodies? Just throwing some thoughts out there to see if anyone has insights or similar case examples to share. It's such a difficult mystery for his loved ones and the community.
