I’ve been revisiting the details surrounding Damion Richardson’s case, and it's still so disturbing to think about the circumstances in Chicago during 2012. I came across a report that mentioned how his neighborhood was one of the hardest hit by gun violence that year. I can’t even begin to imagine how his family felt—living in fear daily, while also grappling with his sudden and tragic loss. It makes me wonder about the community initiatives they tried to implement. Did any of them make a difference afterward, even a small one? Knowing how many families were going through similar pain at that time is honestly overwhelming. My thoughts go out to everyone who knew him and all those affected by the violence that seemed so rampant back then. If anyone has insight on how communities tried to cope or what measures were taken post-2012, I’d love to hear more.
