I’ve been following the tragic story of Akeem J. Manago, and it's just so devastating to think about how another young life was taken too soon. Reading up on this case, it really makes you wonder about the societal conditions that seem to trap so many young men in these cycles of violence. The Near West Side, like a few other areas in Chicago, has seen such troubling patterns, where the sound of gunshots becomes almost routine. It’s terribly sad, not just for Akeem’s family who must be feeling an unimaginable pain, but for his friends and anyone who cared about him. Losing someone like this leaves a mark on the community. One can only hope that we, as a society, can find a way to address these issues more effectively and prevent future tragedies. It's a long and difficult road, but the necessity for change is clear. Thoughts are with the loved ones grappling with their loss.
