Has anyone else been following the Andre Velazquez case from 2013? While so much focus is understandably on the numbers and the larger issue of gun violence in Chicago, I can't stop thinking about Andre's family and friends. Losing someone suddenly, especially to something as senseless as a shooting, is a type of pain that ripples through an entire community. No parent, sibling, or partner should have to experience that. What really bothers me is how these cases, like Andre's, often seem to disappear into statistics rather than being remembered as the personal tragedies they are. Each one leaves a lasting void that statistics can't fill. If anyone has more information about who Andre was or what he meant to those around him, I'd love to learn more. Sometimes sharing stories can keep the memory of victims alive and remind us of the individual behind the headlines. My heart goes out to all those who knew and loved him.
