I was reading about Deandre Calahan’s case, and I feel so saddened for his family and friends who have to live with this loss. It’s so frustrating to see how systemic issues like economic disparities and lack of resources keep impacting communities like the South Side. We talk a lot about crime rates and statistics, but it’s real lives and families being affected behind those numbers. I came across a report mentioning that in these areas, young people don’t have the opportunities they deserve. It makes me wonder how many lives could be changed if there were more programs aimed at youth engagement and development. Maybe if there were more community centers or job training programs, we could start seeing a shift. Has anyone gotten involved with local efforts or organizations that are trying to make these changes happen? Would love to hear about any positive stories or ways we can all help.
