I can't stop thinking about how communities like the one where Eugene Matheny was killed are often left to grapple with the aftermath of violence with little support. It's so tough knowing that areas plagued by gang activity and poverty bear the brunt of these tragedies. It's easy to talk about statistics and numbers, but each of those lost lives tells a story and leaves behind loved ones who are shattered. I really hope Eugene's family finds some kind of peace or justice in the wake of all this, and that communities rally together to find solutions that address the root causes of violence. It feels like there needs to be a stronger focus on community-driven change and resources to help lift these neighborhoods out of the cycle of violence. It's more than a law enforcement issue; it's about social change too. Thoughts with all those affected by similar tragedies.
