It's so unsettling to think about how close the neighbors were to such a tragedy without realizing it. I feel for Paul and Jennifer Donahue, who received that gift basket from Joseph. It must be incredibly jarring for them to process that interaction in hindsight. Imagine thinking you were helping friends enjoy their vacation, only to find out what really happened. I wonder if Joseph's actions, like picking up the dog and giving that gift basket, were part of an attempt to maintain a facade of normalcy. It's haunting how someone can act so calm and collected in the aftermath of such unthinkable acts. We often hear about signs of distress or tension before something like this occurs, but it's not always obvious to those around them. My heart goes out to the friends and neighbors who were caught up in this horrific situation without any fault of their own. It's a painful reminder that we often don’t know what’s happening behind closed doors.
