It's just so upsetting to think about what happened out there in Grand County. I keep coming back to the testimony given by Dr. Michael Burson. The fact that he had to confirm a gunshot wound to the neck as Simon Howell's cause of death is so chilling. It puts into perspective the tragic outcome of not following basic safety measures. I can't even begin to imagine the loss felt by Simon's family and friends. They deserve justice and answers for what has happened. It's also just a stark reminder for all hunters about the importance of identifying your target and what's beyond it before pulling the trigger. Safety first, always. It's so haunting to think that simple mistakes can lead to such irreversible consequences. My thoughts go out to everyone involved, especially to the families who are still dealing with this senseless tragedy.
Hey everyone,
I've been following the Simon Howell case and I'm just perplexed by the whole situation between Harry Watkins and the wounded elk. It's incredibly important to emphasize the basics of firearm safety, especially in such a heavily wooded area. It boggles my mind that someone could fire three shots through thick timber without a clear view of the target. These are the very scenarios hunters are cautioned about: knowing your target and what's beyond it.
My heart goes out to Simon Howell's family. Losing someone in such a senseless manner must be incredibly hard. It makes me think about how crucial it is for everyone in the hunting community to prioritize safety above all else. Accidents happen, but this one feels like it could have been so easily avoided with more precaution.
Stay safe out there, everyone, and always remember: safety first.
