I recently read about the tragic assassination of Orhan Gündüz, and one aspect that’s been lingering in my mind is the lack of protection despite the prior threats he faced. It’s incredibly frustrating to think that just weeks before his murder, there was a bomb attack on his business, and yet authorities didn't provide any safeguarding measures for him. Being an Honorary Consul General, he was clearly a target, and I can't help but wonder why more wasn't done to protect him. The refusal or inability to shield a figure who represents a country really makes you question the accountability of those responsible for public safety back then. It’s a grim reminder of how threats should always be taken seriously, especially when someone's life is at obvious risk. My thoughts are with Orhan Gündüz’s family and friends, who must still be grappling with these painful "what ifs." It’s crucial we continue to speak about these issues in hopes that similar oversights won't happen in the future.
