Jamal's case has been on my mind a lot lately. It’s so tragic to see someone so young lose their life in such a senseless manner. I keep wondering about the ripple effect this must have had on his family and friends, knowing they’re now trying to navigate life without him. Also, it's just so overwhelming to think about how many families went through similar pain that year in Chicago. What’s even more frustrating is that it seemed to be part of a larger wave of violence, as if communities were just being torn apart by these tragedies one after the other. I really hope more attention is brought to finding lasting solutions to curb violence in these neighborhoods. My thoughts go out to Jamal’s loved ones, who are undoubtedly still struggling with this loss.

It's been troubling me how the media focused so much on the overall crime statistics in 2015, sometimes forgetting the individual stories behind these numbers. Jamal M. Jackson wasn't just another statistic; he was someone’s son, perhaps a brother or a friend, and his future was unjustly taken away. I feel deeply for his family and those close to him who must be grappling with such immense loss while the rest of the world moves on to the next news cycle. The trauma left behind in communities like the South Side can't be overstated, and it's essential that we recognize and honor each life lost by pushing for meaningful change and community support. Does anyone know if there have been any community initiatives that have come up since then to improve safety in Jamal's neighborhood? It just feels like there’s got to be more we can do, even if it starts with small steps.
