I’ve been thinking a lot about how this case might have been different if it happened today with all the forensic advancements we have now. It's chilling to imagine how vulnerable Marshal Patton and Deputy Mount were back then. In those moments, they had no idea they were walking into a trap in what should've been a familiar and safe environment. Can you imagine if ballistics and DNA profiling had existed in 1881? We might have had a much better chance of identifying the shooters. It's deeply frustrating that the perpetrators were able to just melt into the night, and justice was never served. It makes you wonder what clues might still be out there, lost to time. My heart goes out to Patton’s family; living with such unresolved pain must've been unimaginably hard. I hope one day they’ll find some answers, even though so much time has passed.
