I can't shake the feeling that Captain Twiggs might have played a bigger part in all of this than people realized at the time. It seems odd that he and his son fled and were found together in that abandoned building. Was his relationship with Jesse Roper ever thoroughly investigated? It must be devastating for Sheriff Byler's family and the community to deal with such betrayal if Twiggs was indeed complicit. It leaves me wondering how much was known about Twiggs's past dealings or connections that might have influenced his actions. My heart goes out to those who were let down by someone they possibly trusted.
