Just stumbled upon this case and couldn't help but feel deeply for Deputy Kirkland’s family. Those times must have been so tough for everyone, and it's sad to think about how tensions ran high over the draft. I'm curious about the men who were arrested—what led them to such drastic actions? Were they fervent anti-war advocates, or was it more about fear and desperation? Each individual engaged in this tragedy had their own backstory, and it makes me wonder if there was a missed chance for dialogue before things escalated. Has anyone come across any personal accounts or family stories from either Deputy Kirkland’s side or those of the convicted? These perspectives might give us a fuller picture of what was going on and maybe highlight attempts at empathy and understanding, if any existed at all. Sending thoughts to all those affected by this event, hoping they found peace in some way.
